Педали бас-бочки
Самая первая педаль была изобретена и запатентована в 1885 году Джорджем Р. Олнеем. До этого момента для полноценного выступления требовалось как минимуму 3 барабанщика: один из которых играл на малом барабане, другой для игры на тарелках и третий, чтобы стучать в бас-барабан. Олнеевское устройство представляло собой педаль, которая крепилась к ободу бас-барабана, а ремешок из кожи прикреплял основание педали к шарообразной колотушке. Нажимая педаль ремешок тащил за собой колотушку, которая в свою очередь била в бас-барабан. На этом история педалей не заканчивается, уже в 1909 году Уильям Ф. Людвиг и его брат Теобальд запатентовали совершенно новую модель педали для бас-барабана, которая навсегда изменила барабанный мир. Это была первая напольная педаль с поднятым валом имевшая уникальные особенности, такие как: возвратная колотушка, система прямого привода (на современном языке — direct drive) пластины педали. Дополнительная колотушка для тарелки, она была связанная с педалью, но при этом была возможность изменить ее положение, чтобы позволить играть барабанщику только на бас-барабане. В дальнейшем появлялись другие модели педалей, такие как Ludwig — Super Speed, New Speed (с них началось применение подшипников в валу).
